I’ve been asked to do a tutorial on pine trees and mountains a lot over the last year but until now I’d not found any scenes that I felt inspired by. Thankfully this scene has both of those elements which work well together giving the viewer a great composition and feeling of depth. The snow adds another dimension which (believe it or not) I think makes this tutorial slightly easier because there are less techniques needed.
It’s not as difficult as it looks and that’s why I would recommend this lesson for the intermediate artist and above. If you’re a beginner I’d still encourage you to give it a try, after all practice makes perfect.

Brushes used in this lesson: Michael James Smith Professional Brush Set
In August 2019 Michael switched brush manufacturers from Rosemary & Co to PalettePro and as a result the series numbers/names are different in some of the lessons. In order to be able to complete the lessons regardless of which set you’re using we have put together a chart which lists the equivalent brushes from both sets.
